Just published some pictures of BMW’s upcoming X5 hybrid in California’s Death Valley. The images depict an BMW X5 Active Hybrid prototype with an oversized bulge located on the bonnet.
The new hybrid will feature BMW’s version of the modular two-mode hybrid system jointly developed with Daimler and General Motors. The system features a pair of electric motors located within the transmission and can provide electric only drive at low speeds or act as a performance booster at high load.

Nikkei business daily reported on Monday that Toyota will install solar panels on the next generation Prius Hybrids.
Toyota would equip solar panels on the roof of the high-end version of the Prius when it redesigns the gasoline-electric hybrid car early next year, and the power generated by the system would be used for the air conditioning. Solar panels will be used from Kyocera Corp.

Jack Martin, a member of the Triad Electric Vehicle Association (Burlington) and eacher at Appalachian State University won thin year’s hypermiling fuel economy competition in a Honda Insight hybrid. He broke 124 MPG of gasoline in his unmodified Insight hybrid with one passenger.

The Volkswagen Tiguan HyMotion hydrogen fuel cell vehicle were introduced to reporters during a news conference June 12, 2008 in San Francisco, California.
Volkswagen held a news conference debut of their concept Tiguan HyMotion hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that features a 107 horsepower fuel cell system that produces zero tailpipe emissions. The fuel-cell engine is assisted by an electric motor to create a total output of 134 horsepower.
Mazda Motor Corp. announced the world’s first hydrogen hybrid vehicle in Hiroshima on June 20. It is Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid minivan.

Hybrid car - it is the car with hybrid electric engine. A Vehicle in which the power that drives it comes from batteries and an internal combustion engine that drives a generator. The engine can also drive the wheels directly and used outside the green zones.
In the case of gasoline-electric hybrids, when the internal combustion engine works it generates more energy than necessary and electric motor is used as a generator and the battery charging system. In other situations, only the electric motor works, feeding on the energy to store in the battery.
Latest hybrid cars can recover kinetic energy under braking, turning it into electricity and charge their battery. Plug-ins is used to charge battery overnight.

Toyota will offer up a fleet of 78 vehicles for official use during the G8 meet up. Lexus LS600h hybrid luxury sedans, they will provide 15 Crown hybrids, 43 Estima hybrid minivans, and five fuel cell-powered FCHV buses. With environmental issues being at the top of the agenda for the gathering, Toyota wanted to make sure officials and media got around in the cleanest transportation available.

Regenerative Braking. The electric motor applies resistance to the drivetrain causing the wheels to slow down. In return, the energy from the wheels turns the motor, which functions as a generator, converting energy normally wasted during coasting and braking into electricity, which is stored in a battery until needed by the electric motor.
Electric Motor Drive/Assist. The electric motor provides additional power to assist the engine in accelerating, passing, or hill climbing. This allows a smaller, more efficient engine to be used. Automatic Start/Shutoff. Automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop and restarts it when the accelerator is pressed. This prevents wasted energy from idling.
